About Me

Welcome to my blog! I’m Karen, a stay-at-home mum to one very entertaining toddler.

I’ve thought long and hard about how best to introduce myself.  After much pondering I’ve decided to keep it simple, which means I’ll not bother telling you about the time I got hospitalised for having tonsillitis in the knees, or the awkward conversation I started with Richard E Grant on the District Line, when I incorrectly thought I recognised him from work, rather than from ‘Withnail and I’. I’ll just stick to the need-to-know stuff.

I’m originally from the north-east, but have moved around a bit, stopping off in Cardiff, London, Tokyo, a couple of other Japanese places, and Rostock (nothing lovelier than mid-1990’s East German student accommodation.).  However, my love of corned beef pasties eventually drew me back to Durham, where I now live with my husband and 22 month old daughter.

Like most first time mums, I find that every day brings a new challenge. It’s taken a while, but I can now finally accept that I will never be supermum, and am happy to come clean, and admit that since month 14, I have been a staunch advocate of rice-cracker parenting, and that since month 8, CBeebies has featured in my top 5 list of the absolute best things in the world, ever. Ever.

So the blog…well, the plan is to take a humorous look at motherhood, parenting and life in general. I’m hoping it’s going to be fun, but don’t take that as a guarantee. Please bear with me and let’s see what happens!
